Do you have to remove countertop to install dishwasher?

Do I need to remove my countertop to install a new dishwasher?

Many of our customers ask us whether they need to remove their old countertops before installing new ones. The answer is generally no, but there are a few exceptions. Appliances such as the stove, dishwasher, and refrigerator should be installed before the countertops if at all possible. Having them in place ensures that they are taken into account when measuring your counters.

Furthermore, if you’re installing a backsplash at the same time, it’s best to do so before installing the countertops. Otherwise, you risk damaging your brand-new counters while attempting to install the backsplash. Finally, removing your old countertops may be the best option if they are in poor condition or you are planning a major kitchen renovation.

Why You Shouldn’t Remove Your Countertops?

There are several reasons why you shouldn’t remove your countertops before installing new ones.

  • First and foremost, it’s generally not necessary. Appliances such as the stove, dishwasher, and refrigerator can be installed without removing the countertops.
  • Second, leaving the countertops in place during installation protects them from potential damage.
  • Third, removal and installation are both time-consuming and labor-intensive processes.
  • Fourth, if you have granite or quartz countertops, removal and reinstallation can be very expensive.

The only time you really need to remove your countertops is if they are in poor condition or you are planning a major kitchen renovation. In these cases, removal and replacement may be your best option.
